SFTAA Futurity and Challenge

Held in Louisville, Kentucky

Futurity Rules & Guidelines

When: determined by the Board of Directors

Location: determined by the Board of Directors

Rules:

  • Litters must be nominated BEFORE they are whelped - $10 fee
  • Individual puppy nominations will be accepted up to 60 days before show - $15 fee
  • All litter and individual nominations must be submitted on appropriate SFTAA Futurity Forms
  • Person nominating the litter must be a member in good standing of the SFTAA

Selection of Judges:

  • Breeders will have the option to nominate a judge for the Futurity when they nominate a litter. The list of nominees will then go to a vote of the full membership for selection. The Futurity Stakes judge must be someone that the Board of Governors considers a respected authority on Smooth Fox Terriers and must meet one of the following minimal requirements:

1) Experience as a regular class or sweepstakes judge of Smooth Fox Terriers at a national specialty (any country).

2) At least 10 years as a Smooth Fox Terrier breeder, or 10 years as a professional handler of Smooth Fox Terriers

  • The identity of the elected judge is not publicly disclosed until after the deadline for individual nominations has closed (60 days prior to the event). Once a person has judge the Futurity, his/her name cannot appear on the ballot for a period of five years.

Showing:

  • With the exception of professional handlers, any member or non-member is permitted to show an exhibit in the competition. The exhibitor is not required to own the dog to be eligible to show it. Exception: Professional handlers may not exhibit in the Futurity unless they are doing so as a breeder or owner of the dog.

Awards:

  • Best Puppy, Reserve Best Puppy
  • Best Junior, Reserve Best Junior
  • Grand Futurity Stakes Winner (Best of Puppy and Junior) All prize money won by an individual dog will be divided evenly between the breeder/co-breeder that nominated the litter, and the owner that nominated the individual dog.

Selection of Judges:

  • Three names are drawn at random from those volunteering. Each judge will be notified as soon as selected, but the identity of the selected judges is not publicly disclosed until the day of the event. Once a person has judged the Challenge, he/she cannot judge the Challenge for a period of 5 years.
